From Concept to Reality: Designing & Building the LA Kings Historical Display

At Blast Media Print, we take pride in managing every single phase of a project under one roof. For our recent work with the LA Kings, we didn’t just print and install—we led the process from initial research and 3D design all the way through fabrication and final installation.

For Allan Louie, Co-Owner at Blast Media, seeing the project come to life was a career milestone:

"Last night was the most impactful moment of my career so far. We designed, produced, and delivered the LA Kings Hall of Fame: a permanent display within Crypto.com Arena, to become part of its long line of sports memories and history. The pressure was on to deliver a piece that would make the hockey legends proud."

Honouring franchises icons like Wayne Gretzky, Dustin Brown, Luc Robitaille, Anze Kopitar, Pete Demers, and Bob Miller left zero room for error. But for Allan, the true measure of success wasn't just the ribbon-cutting—it was the fans' reaction during intermission:

"From the 1968 goalie mask to the 2012 Obama championship letters, seeing the fans that fuel this club reminisce about major moments in hockey history at our display made the project all worth it."

Here is a look behind the scenes at how we brought 60 years of hockey heritage to life.

1. Research, Survey & Environmental Design

A project honouring over five decades of sports history requires deep research before production begins.

Our team surveyed the space, studied the team's historical visual identity from 1967 through 2026, and created an overall environmental design concept. The goal was simple: craft a space that delivers visual impact while telling a cohesive brand story for fans and legends alike.

2. Preserving Hockey History & The Hockey Hall of Fame

Handling priceless historical artifacts requires extreme care and precision. Blast Media Print researched, cataloged, and designed custom display solutions for artifacts spanning 1967 to 2026, sourcing items directly from Heritage Works and the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

Representing the Hockey Hall of Fame, representatives traveled from Toronto to Los Angeles to collaborate with our team on-site as we carefully placed these iconic pieces into their custom enclosures.

3. Custom Fabrication & Premium Materials

To match the prestige of the franchise, we combined industrial structural engineering with luxury surface finishes:

  • Glass Jewel Cases & Artifact Enclosures: Custom-engineered display cabinets designed to protect and illuminate historical gear and memorabilia.

  • Laminate Faux Marble Foundations: High-durability luxury surfaces that anchor the display walls.

  • Illuminated Display Wall: Integrated top and bottom LED lighting engineered to eliminate shadows across the artifacts and plaques.

  • Channel Letters with Frosted Halo Effect: Precision-cut lettering with soft backlit halo illumination to accentuate key signage.

  • Hall of Fame Plaques: Layered brushed metal with protective acrylic casing.

  • Appliqué & Embroidered Fabric Work: Custom appliqué fabric banners highlighting championship years alongside detailed embroidered fabric panels documenting the evolution of the LA Kings logo from 1967 to 2026.

  • Interactive Fan Photo Op: A full life-size player cut-out experience featuring a replica player bench and branded back wall.

4. Honoring Franchise Legends

It is an absolute honor to know that the plaques and display elements engineered by our team serve as the backdrop for legends who shaped the sport, including:

  • Luc Robitaille

  • Wayne Gretzky

  • Dustin Brown

  • Bob Miller
