The "X-Factor" in Print: Why Initiative is the Ultimate Tool - Meet Hallie
In the fast-paced world of professional printing, technical skills are a baseline requirement. You need to know the machines, the software, and the substrates. But there is one quality that can’t be taught in a manual or downloaded in a software update: Initiative.
At Blast Media Print, we call it "getting it." And recently, our newest team member, Hallie Moher, gave us a masterclass in what that looks like.

Meet Hallie: The Last Line of Defence
Hallie joined our team in November 2024, bringing nearly a decade of industry experience from Ontario to Vancouver. As part of our pre-press and design team, she serves as the final gatekeeper before a file hits the production floor. It’s a role that requires precision, but Hallie proved she brings much more than just a sharp eye for design.
Seeing the Unspoken Need
Great employees do what they are told; exceptional employees do what needs to be done before they are even asked.
Without a formal assignment or prompt, Hallie took it upon herself to create custom signage for our production area. These weren't just decorative; they were functional tools designed to track:
-
Days without reprints
-
Days without docket closure

By observing the shop culture and understanding the workflow, she created something that truly belongs on a print floor. She saw a gap in how we track our success and built the bridge to fix it.
Culture is a Choice
Initiative often comes with a side of personality. Whether it’s creating organizational tools on her own whim or climbing into a dumpster to get the perfect team photo, Hallie has shown that she isn't just working at Blast Media Print—she’s helping build the culture.

In this industry, you can teach someone how to run a press, but you can’t teach the drive to make the shop better than you found it. You either have it, or you don’t.
Hallie has it.
