Collaborative Branding: Creating the Montecito Elementary Sensory Path
At Blast, we specialize in visual branding that does more than just look good—it serves a functional purpose. We recently partnered with Montecito Elementary School to transform their hallways into an interactive, high-energy environment through a custom-designed and professionally installed Sensory Path.
This project was a perfect marriage of our large-format printing capabilities and the school's commitment to student well-being.
The Vision: Design with Direction
A sensory path is a series of guided movements—hops, spins, and stretches—designed to help students manage "the wiggles" and refocus. Our design team worked to create a cohesive theme that felt native to the school’s atmosphere.
We moved beyond basic shapes to create a custom "movement journey," featuring:
-
Balance Beams: Winding forest paths to encourage concentration.
-
Action Stations: Brightly colored "lily pads" for hopping and "cosmic spirals" for spinning.
-
Wall Graphics: Interactive "wall push" stations to provide proprioceptive feedback for students needing a sensory reset.

The Tech: Durability Meets Safety
When you’re printing for an elementary school, durability isn't optional. At the Blast Media shop, we chose materials engineered for the highest foot-traffic environments:
-
High-Tack Vinyl: We utilized a premium adhesive vinyl specifically formulated to bond with floor surfaces, ensuring the edges won’t lift under heavy use.
-
Safety Laminate: To protect the print and the students, we applied a slip-resistant laminate. This provides a textured, matte finish that prevents slips while making the colors pop.
-
Custom Die-Cutting: Using our precision CNC cutting equipment, we turned our designs into intricate decals, from small animal tracks to large-scale floor murals.
The Execution: A Seamless Installation
Our installation team treated the Montecito hallways like a high-stakes gallery. The secret to a long-lasting floor graphic is in the preparation. We meticulously prepped the surfaces to ensure a 100% bond, then carefully mapped out the "flow" of the path to avoid obstructing classroom doorways or high-traffic intersections.
The result is a seamless, vibrant installation that looks like a permanent part of the school’s architecture.

Why Sensory Paths Matter
As visual branding experts, we love seeing how print can impact a community. Seeing the students at Montecito engage with these graphics—jumping, stretching, and smiling—reminds us that great signage doesn't just give information; it creates an experience.
We are incredibly proud to have helped Montecito Elementary turn their hallways into a space that supports movement and learning.
